Summer Skin SOS: Do’s & Don’ts for Protecting Your Skin

Sunscreen

As the sun blazes high and beach days call your name, your skin needs more than just a splash of SPF. Protecting your skin in summertime isn’t just about avoiding sunburn—it’s about long-term health and keeping that radiant glow. Let’s break it down:

☀️ The Do’s:

  • Do wear sunscreen daily. Even if it’s cloudy, apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, and reapply every two hours (or after swimming).
  • Do stay hydrated. Your skin loves water. Drink plenty and snack on water-rich fruits like watermelon or cucumber.
  • Do wear protective clothing. A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and light, long-sleeved clothing can block harmful rays.
  • Do seek shade. The sun is strongest between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Try to stay indoors or under cover during those hours.

🚫 The Don’ts:

  • Don’t rely solely on makeup with SPF. It’s helpful, but not nearly enough on its own.
  • Don’t forget your lips and ears. These sensitive spots are often overlooked—use a balm with SPF and apply sunscreen around the ears.
  • Don’t use expired products. Sunscreen loses its effectiveness over time. Check those dates!
  • Don’t think tanning is “healthy.” A tan is your skin crying out for help—opt for a self-tanner if you love the golden glow.

Summer should be a season of joy, not regrets. With a little care and the right habits, you can keep your skin feeling fresh, healthy, and sun-kissed (the safe way).
